Training/ Educational Workshops for 2010

 

In 2010, Community Memorial Foundation will offer workshops on five management areas: Human Resources, Planning, Board Development, Media Awareness and Evaluation. To register for any of the following workshops, please call or email Gale Christoff at gchristoff@cmfdn.org or 630-654-4729.

 

HR— In focus groups, conversations and data from surveys, CMF grantees consistently ask for training on Human Resource issues. As a result, CMF has partnered with the Management Association of IL. The Management Association is a 100 year old employers’ association dedicating to assisting companies and non-profits improve their HR capacity.

 

In 2010, The Management Association will provide six sessions on HR issues for CMF grantees. All HR sessions will be held at Plymouth Place (315 N. La Grange Rd., La Grange Park) Topics will include:

 

  • Legal Aspects of Interviewing and Hiring

Planning 101—CMF grantees struggle with planning. In this half day session, grantees will learn about various types of planning processes, their commonalities, differences and what makes planning successful. Carter McNamara a consultant with over 20 years of consulting experience will facilitate this session. Date: April 15th from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the LaGrange Country Club (620 S. Brainard, LaGrange).

 

Board Development:  Almost all CMF grantees struggle on some level with board issues. CMF will sponsor two workshops in the fall.  The first session will focus on basic building blocks for boards (roles, responsibilities, etc.). The second session will focus on practical examples and best practices of high functioning boards including board member retention and how to take a board to the next level in its development.  Date May 25th First session from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Second Session from 5:00 to 8:30PM at the LaGrange Country Club (620 S. Brainard, LaGrange).

 

Media Awareness—This topic ranked high in CMF’s last grantee survey. CMF will work with a consultant to develop a training for non-profits on how to tell their story via media. This session will also include a panel discussion with reporters from local papers. Anticipated date—June..

 

Evaluation:  Evaluation assistance continues to be needed for many CMF grantees. In this “refresher” session, CMF will revisit topics covered in a similar session in 2009, focusing on assisting grantees to develop program goals and measurable outcome objectives. Anticipated date—August.
